Over the weekend had to use my riding tools again which I have not touched in a while I have come to realize that some parts missing and some just looking very sad from moisture etc.

How often do you guys re-evaluate your riding tool essentials? As well as any tips or tricks learned over the years as to what you would deem an essential for general as well as mountain riding.

My list is as follows:
  • Spark Plug
  • Master link
  • Space Blanket
  • KTM Tool Bag
  • Spark plug spanner
  • Empty Juice Box
  • Hat
  • Zip Ties

- Spark plug (in an enclosed water proof case)
- KTM tool bag (however I have replaced most of the tools with smaller more compact tools - to make it lighter, and have more room to include other tools)
- An extra 10MM spanner (2 in total)
- Cable ties
- Fuses (whole array)
- Spare master link + master link press tool
- Folding hex key set
- Pratley steel
- Small first aid kit (IMO pointless AF - "here's a plaster for your broken leg")
- Spare gear selector lever & spare rear brake lever
- Spare bolts (various sizes)
- Toilet paper
- 4 x Far/Fast bars
- Small folding knife

Some of the above I don't carry on social rides, but for Lesotho / races, I carry all.

In addition to what you have I also carry the following

1. Track Pack - Assorted nuts, bolts and fuses for my bike
2. Pratley Steel
3. Duct Tape - Because if zip ties can't, duct tape can.
4. Bog Roll - Everyone loves a bos kak!
5. Lighter - You never know and most of my ride mates don't smoke.
6. Tow Rope
7. Chain Breaker
8. Wire
9. Assorted energy bars / sweets
10. 500ml water - For radiator or backup if tripper runs dry
11. Medical Kit
12. Spare gloves
13. Gear lever and Clutch lever

I carry minimal stuff, most have been mentioned so will just add to the list:

Have you guys ever noticed that the KTM tool bag does not have a phillips screwdriver head?

Instead of using an old juice carton, I carry my tools in a big ziplock bag in the airbox, use that ziplock back for water or fuel transfer rather than the juice box

Carry 2 masterlinks

Grip wire and normal wire

Leatherman

Galvanising tape to fix a broken or leaking radiator pipe

Also noticed that spare bolts kit does not have washers or any nuts, so added those

Superglue for a bad cut

Since impi I wont ride without decent pain killers anymore

Levers in the airbox.
90% of my tools go in my bum-bag.
The rest in my camel packs bag.

I used to zip tie most of my stuff to the inside of my front number-board, but found it to be a mission when I needed something from there.

How do you secure this?
It fits perfectly snug without moving.
You have to push the thinner part of toolbag up under the subframe by the part I marked A, the lower section slots in next to the filter.
It lies behind the white plastic in the pic where I marked with red.

Just check how you rotate tools in the toolbag, sometimes find that when the bag is not wrapped nicely it struggles to fit

Ill actually have to take a look at whats in my bum bag.

Always have a tublis kit and a bomb or 2.
KTM spanner,
Clicker screw driver
20cm piece of a saw blade
Some grip wire,
Small bag with nuts and bolts and chain link
And the KTM t handle thing
With enough toilet paper for 2 wipes

Other than that, I have plenty space for my phone and some snacks!
