YA we have a boat that is stored at Eligwa (Next to emerald Casino)

Is lekker for the family except the river is so fucked with sewage at the moment that we dont go as much as we would like.

we have a panache 2150 with a 225 Mariner (ITS AS THIRSTY AS Naughty Ian )

We have avoided the Vaal for a few years now. We always check the fecal content online and its always to high. I will not bring myself or my kids near it. Having said that, we used to enjoy riverside beach club, excellent if you have kids. They have excellent boat storage. And they are serviced by most brands of dealerships, so your boat gets serviced in the locker without hassling you. https://www.riversidebeachclub.co.za/index.html

We have found that Dronkwordspruit dam(google it) has been quite good of recent and a lot of the drunk inconsiderate a holes that used to frequent it have moved on.

The vaal dam is also always an option. We avoid the resorts like a plague though. Air bnb a cool dam front house with a launch in a complex is they way to go. I also have a few mates who have houses on the dam who let them out. I can forward details if you would like. These are very big houses on private land with private launches, cool for a big group.

Boating is all about timing in Gauteng. try dodge pay day weekend if you have kids and dont want your blood to boil.

You'd be better off going to boat on a sewerage farm, the water is bad there
True that... In all fairness, I haven't been to either of those places in the last couple of years....
Any idea hows Witbank dam, been there on one occasion a while back...

I spent many weekends at Witbank Dam. Used to be one of the better ones, not sure what it's like now though.

the canoe club has a motorised boat, they also launch other powerboats on the dam for certain events like the high altitude surfski event...

I do not boat currently, but a few weeks ago I started building a 14ft mahogany runabout. Part of the reason for not riding is time and money going elsewhere.
In October last year I started on the motor for it, I have a lovely vintage Chrysler 20hp, waiting for a part or 2 form the states but motor is running smoothly now, just need to sort out the lower unit and starter mech.
yes uncle Dave but those are organised special events , you cant just pitch up and launch your boat , as for the canoe club , I am sure that motorized boat is for safety reasons and recovery purposes .

you can however go play with RC boats on the dam

Yes you have a point you can't just launch your 21ft speed boat and start skiing and pulling tubes.
However 'boat' is a broad description. Guys literally rock up most weekends with small dinghys and inflatable boats with sneaker motors and launch them and spend the day fishing.

Dave, Dean doesn't like boats because they are transported on TRAILERS :icon_lol:

I love my fishing, although dont do much of it from a boat. Apart from the Vaal and Harties, there are lots of other dams around SA like Bronkhorstspruit, Vaalkop, Loskop, Koppies, Gariep, Vanderkloof, Jozini (Tigerfish), you just have to drive out and make the mission! Most of them have a variety of lodges and resorts with launch facilities etc...

The ultimate venue for me is Sterkfontein dam near Harrismith (also some nice riding out that way). World class venue for flyfishing and boating, watersports etc.. with spectacular scenery and gin clear unpolluted water. There is lekker resort there called Qwantani. Close to home you cant go wrong with the Vaal dam and river despite pollution near the barrage, still very pleasant, just dont swim or swallow the pea soup, i mean water!

Call me if you wanna chat!

Flag Boshielo Dam, between Marble Hall & Grobbies.
Rhenosterkop Dam, out Moloto way, PTA Noord / Oos
Ebenaeser Dam, Tzaneen.
One out near Middleburg, forget the name. NOT Witbank Dam.

None of the local waters around JHB, Harties or Dronkwordspruit, is worth the trip. Vuil Rivier is full of crap, Vaal Dam plenty sand bars.

Go North, thank me later.

Has anyone been to De Hoop Dam?

Built in 2014, with no real infrastructure, I have heard of good bass coming out of there, but the lack of resorts and what not probably means less boneheads.

I drive passed that dam often when I go on site visits on the mines in the steelpoort area we have contracts with , there ares till may dead trees in the water , so one would have to be careful , have not seen a boat except a parks board boat now and again in the water and but you cannot see the shore on the other side of the road , at this stage there are no resorts or facilities that have been developed , there is however a game lodge on the one side of the dam coming from Stoffbergs/ Tonteldoos / Roosenekal side , it will be on your right , that the guys go fish at as follows :

Been looking at these dams with interest but.....

With the bridge now completed in Maputo, it’s soooo close to drive down to Ponta area. Or with the Maputo Ring Road done soon it will be 8 hours drive to Guinjata from Pretoria....

Get some proper fishing done......Not a 200 gram baitfish trot on a silly fly thingy.....
