Down here in and around CPT all is good. Dont know for how long though.

So we are staying. Cant imagine going abroad and working for a boss again.
Wife is a lawyer so will have to study again to work. So will also go from two good incomes to just 1.

I am rather trying to work with Africa, BBBEE can work for you if you are willing to make it work.
Lots of good BBBEE partners out there and it cuts a lot of competition in the market.

Only downside to earning Rands = Less traveling on Euro and Dollar holidays

I’ve been in NZ now for 18 months. I left for different reasons to South Africans as eswatini violent crime is nowhere near the same but corruption was making work difficult and I just wanted a change - working for yourself is fine when you get paid. I considered looking for work on SA but with kids it didn’t make sense, I also don’t really like working with saffas (I didn’t realise half of them are now in NZ :icon_lol:

While NZ is not the land of milk and honey Facebookers make it out to be, being employed here is awesome. I have been shocked at how easily leave is accepted and I can even take sick leave when my kids are home sick. I still miss the freedom of home especially when it comes to bikes but I spend a lot more time with my kids and started riding trials

Mark is right everyone is middle class here and because the gap between the haves and the have nots is so small compared to Africa you feel poor. (Also do your own housework and there are no shangaans around for your general diy stuff)

But my bit of advice is move for your ow neasons and also visit wherever you are planning to move to first don’t base it on what others are saying on fb. try to secure a job before you officially move ( I came over for interviews and a look see in feb and secured a job flew in on Sunday in July and started working on Monday). It amazes me the number of saffas that sell everything and move across the country and then don’t manage to get a job. Most people wouldn’t move from jhb to ct without first having a job

I look at this move as part of my life adventure I don’t know if this is where I will live out my life it suits my needs at the moment and remember there is nothing stopping me (or anyone) from moving back

@Swazi matt where are you based and what salary would one need over there to live a fair existance, I understand that Aukland is more expensive to live in so would need a higher salary etc.

I’m in Hamilton. Average family income is $80k and Facebookers say you live well on that I think with that salary you won’t be eating out but eating decent food at home and probably not saving anything

There is a good calculator here https://www.newzealandnow.govt.nz/living-in-nz/money-tax/comparable-living-costs but a bit on the conservative side

Rent will be about $500/week for a 3 bedroom house

That's a stupid group. There is no need to gloat and justify to everybody why you left. If you are so at peace with your choice then whats the point of trying to reaffirm it to everyone else? Everyone is trying so hard to convince everybody else that their life is going well. You left, you're happy, good for you.

Make your choices and live with them... Same with the #imstaying group. "Hey everyone please give me attention, please reassure me that my life is good and that everything will be okay". Facebook is a fuckn disease!
:icon_lol: agreed on the making each other feel good posts, that and all the specialists in various fields venting!:icon_lol:

Anglo are out. Tongaat are closing a plant. SAB have handed out 500 letters.

The brain drain is real.

Everyone that has made a plan and thinks BBEEE is working for them are very short sighted. Who are you and your BBEEE partner going to sell shit to? Housing market is going down, too many houses for sale all int he same bracket from people emigrating.

Tongaat is a different story. There were some accounting irregularities and some dodge decisions there. I wouldn't blame that on economy

The SAB’s issues are because boys with man buns, tattoos, trimmed beards and limp wrists think its trendy to drink imported light beers in green bottles. See what the little AndyAndyAndyAndys have done.

Tongaat did the same as those buggers in Skelmbosch by massively inflating what their assets were worth to borrow more money. When that Cyclone hit last year it wiped out their entire hugely inflated Mafambisse plantation and they then had to write off what they told everyone it was worth rather than what is what actually worth. Then the auditors started digging and found out the real stories.

basically, that and they been selling off a ton of valuable land( read Umhlanga and Ballito's expansion) so the books look good but you kinda need land to grow sugarcane to make sugar...

Hi Guys

I’ve been lurking here/ e-dirt since 2007. I emigrated to Perth in 2010.
I have never promoted leaving SA or criticised anyone for staying as it is a very personal choice. There is no right or wrong, you decide what is best for you at the time.
I miss SA hugely, especially the people, but I’m happy with my choice to move.
My kids have equal opportunity here and in my view are much safer. They were my reason for moving.

The 'Rose. Vokkol "Prim" about it....
Fixed, for truth.

Will post a piece, a bit later. Just came out of a howler meeting at a huge Client in medical industry... Going to be interesting.... Thank the fuckers, unions and apathy. That simple.
The short of it all, if their company does not break-even on 30th June 2020, they are sinking it and importing all their stuff from china. They had Gauteng Dept of Health there, yesterday avvie. Will have a huge impact on employment, 24/6 production facility.
Sidebar, the Staff have NFi, but the MD etc, been on a few overseas trips, to finalise the chinese contracts. I looked at them, yesterday morning, they have fokkal idea what is coming their way. Well done, 26 years of new ZA.

So ya, this is my second Client, who has followed this route.
Other one was in safety equipment production, had a few hundred Staffers, +- 800. Now imports, warehouses and around 20 Employees. Feels fcukall to import, costs less than half, landed. No loadshedding or whatever bullshit. Fitted a solid solar system. Totally off the grid. O ja, DTi sponsors his trips overseas to china etc. See the paradox in last sentence???

Some cnut ( polidicktions ) need to catch a wakey wakey. Their brothers are going to drop like 1980's Ethiopians....

Meanwhile, we chip away at keeping our dream alive. Starting to wonder if it's like flogging a dying donkey....
My lads are 20 ( Gainfully employed. Cannot go study in his chosen field. Too white. Even UNISA dissed him) and 16, Grade 11. What future can I create for them, almost everything is BBBBBBBBBfuckingEEEEEE driven, I see it just getting worse. I am not fussed to live hand to mouth, that shit is not sustainable and screws are being tightened on everyone. Open to, sensible, suggestions.

Anyone keen on acquiring a parcel of full let-out properties, fully CA audited from day 1? Comm & Res...

Your approach to this is correct. Your reason for leaving was want and not last resort as most make it out to be.

Look im doing a public service here by not reproducing but If one had to come out knocking I would have a similar mindset.

Eskom announces they need to trim a third of their 50 000 employees and have started the process by offering voluntary severance. Another 15 000 jobs down the pisser since the start of the year. We're sitting somewhere near 30K jobs that we know of, nevermind the small guys this is what we hear in the news from SOE or corporate.
