Hi all

I've got a 2013 YZ250f that has the following valve clearances:

Intake:
1) 0.13 - 185 pad
2) 0.11 - 182 pad
3) 0.13- 186 pad

Exhaust
4) 0.20 - 184 pad
5) 0.2 - 184 pad

According to the manual, the only pad I need to replace is 2) with a 175 to bring it back into spec.

My bike takes a while to start sometimes with lots of kicking. I was thinking about resetting the intake valves all to 0.14 or will just adjusting 2) to spec be fine?

May I have your thoughts??

How many hours on the valves? How many times have you shimmed them? Top end fresh?

90 hours on the bike, bought next to 0 hours. Put an hour meter from day 1. Haven't done any shimming yet. Neither a top end.

The valves should be fine. Shim them and be happy. Yamaha’s never break anyway(y)

Why replace the valves you ask easy, once the valves wear through the nitrate coating you will be shimming on a moer regular basis but maybe a good thing to reshim now and see how it goes for a while.

Thanks for all the advise. I'll go get a new 175 shim for the one and give it a go.

Just do the valve that needs shimming if its the first time you need to shim, when you have shimmed 3 times then replace as they wear thin and can break

Thanks Shawn. I was wondering when you need to replace, I mean after how many shimmings. What's the average time on a to end redo for a 4T?
